Specifying Ship Date
If you do not want your plants shipped immediately (see when we will ship if you do not choose a date), choose the specific date that you want your order shipped and indicate your desired shipping date when checking out.Consider the transit time (1-3 days) and choose shipment on a day of the week that will get your plants to you without requiring two extra days traveling over a weekend (shipping on a Monday or Tuesday is always safe). Our arrangement with UPS allows only weekday delivery.
Please choose a specific shipping date that makes sense and is not subject to interpretation.
Examples of specific shipping dates are:
+ March 20th
+ first week in April
Examples of unacceptable (vague, ambiguous) ship dates are:
+ spring
+ when it's a good time to plant
+ after last frost (call your local extension office if you need help determining a date for your area)

Re: AZ, CA, HI, NV, OR, WA
The Department of Agriculture dictates that plants shipped to Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Washington have their roots washed clean of all soil before shipment.
Complying with this requirement is difficult for two reasons: the effort required to manually wash the roots and the challenge to ship soil-less roots without them drying out during shipment.
We experimented with several strategies and concluded that it is impossible to comply in a cost-effective manner.
Re: AK, HI
We do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii because of the high cost of the expedited shipping that is required to deliver plants before their health deteriorates because of shipping. Several times customers offered to pay the air freight cost and the plants still arrived in less than peak condition, we do not want to disappoint anyone else.
Re: other states
If any other states are listed as not-shippable for one of your plants, it is because some of our fulfillment centers cannot ship certain products to certain states. Other forms of that product probably ship from other fulfillment centers that do NOT have that restriction.

An order may be cancelled, but NOT changed after 1:00PM EDT one day prior to order shipment.
After 8:00 AM EDT, the day of shipment, an order may no longer be changed or cancelled.
Due to the length of time it takes to dig up and package bare root plants, orders for special packages of 1000 bare root plants may not be changed or cancelled after the Friday before they are scheduled to ship.

Please understand that you are responsible for accepting delivery of your order. Although we do not require a signature for delivery, UPS may not always leave the package if you are not available when they come, especially if the delivery is to a business.
Leaving a note on your door may help. After three unsuccessful delivery attempts the package will be returned to us.
Due to the perishable nature of our plants and the fact that approximately two weeks will have elapsed by the time a shipment is returned to us, no refunds can be given nor can replacement plants be shipped. If the plants are in containers (not bare root), then they may survive that long; in this case, they could be reshipped, but you would have to pay for the freight cost involved.
Note that we are closed on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas and no deliveries are made on days that UPS observes holidays.

Suggested spacing between plants
On the "Specs" tab
for each plant is a suggested spacing such as "10-15 inches."
The middle of the range generally results in a fairly uniform fill after two seasons under optimal conditions (plants identified as slow growing will take longer).
If you want the row or area to fill in faster, plant using the lower end of the suggested spacing (or even closer if you wish).
If you wish to invest less money and can wait longer for your space to fill in, plant using the upper end of the suggested spacing (or even farther apart if you wish).
